Guild's Dec 3 meeting in Baltimore

Dear Writers,
Marlies Klooster will talk about a children's book organization named Biblionef South Africa. Biblionef’s aim is to develop a love of reading. The organization believes it is important for children to be able to read with enthusiasm in their mother tongue. They therefore donate books in all eleven of South Africa’s official languages and have a special focus on those that have been previously disadvantaged. This year the organization translated and published the book Brenda Has a Dragon in her Blood. With the launch of this book, it is the first time a children’s story on HIV/AIDS is published in all South Africa’s eleven languages. Brenda is a real girl who has been HIV-positive since birth. Her Dutch foster mother, Hijltje Vink, wrote the book. The book has been welcomed by organizations like Child Welfare, Treatment Action Campaign and Positive Women's Network. Their support is important, as AIDS has become a political issue. Klooster will also show fragments from a South African documentary series on HIV/AIDS and children, and from a Dutch television program in which Brenda features, to put Brenda's story into perspective. www.biblionefsa.org.za

Nu maar hopen dat die DVD's op tijd aankomen!
